Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Substation Senior Electrical Engineer in Fort Mill, South Carolina, to lead design and analysis of P&C systems for utility scale substations from 12 kV to 345 kV. You will review third-party documents, develop one-line diagrams, and contribute to cost estimates and construction plans.

You will mentor junior engineers, work with cross-disciplinary teams, ensure QA/QC, and stay current with standards and regulations while delivering high-quality, safe, and compliant designs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5–7 years of post-education experience in electrical design for large capital projects.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and 12 kV–345 kV substations.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, design, development, and construction support of utility scale substations.
• Review third-party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
• Support senior engineers with research and recommendations for components in design requirements.
• Verify site characteristics and provide input on various substation P&C engineering, design, testing, maintenance, modifications, and construction procedures.
• Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, one-line diagrams, and protective relaying.
• Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates; prepare construction phasing plans and update protection schemes.
• Work with cross-discipline teams to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, ensuring QA/QC and client standards.
