Job summary

WSP is seeking a Substation Lead Electrical Engineer (Station P&C) for our Ft. Mill, South Carolina office.

You will guide design, due diligence, and construction support for utility-scale substations, from 12 kV to 345 kV, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to meet client objectives and regulatory standards. You will analyze data, review calculations, develop specifications, and manage budgets across projects, ensuring QA/QC and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for capital projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at utility, industrial, or commercial scale.
• Proficient with substation P&C engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and project work-related issues for 12 kV to 345 kV substations.
• Extensive knowledge of substation P&C design.
• Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction, including rehabilitation and new design projects.
• Knowledge of engineering laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to perform technical computations and interpret plans and specs against regulations.
• Ability to conduct inspections on HV substations, applying applicable regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication for engineering audiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level guidance for due diligence, design, and construction support of utility-scale substations (12 kV–345 kV).
• Develop specifications and cost estimates; prepare construction phasing plans and protection scheme updates.
• Oversee P&C team on cross-discipline projects, manage budgets, hours, and materials.
• Prepare data visualizations, tables, charts, and technical reports for findings and recommendations.
• Interact with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
• Stay current with substation P&C engineering techniques and practices.
• Perform complex electrical design tasks including one-line diagrams, switchgear, SCADA, and wiring diagrams.
