Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead design teams across power, process, healthcare, and industrial projects in California. You will guide the design from concept through construction, adapting plans to budget, code requirements, and client needs.

Responsibilities include preparing equipment specs, reviewing vendor drawings, developing schedules and budgets, mentoring engineers, and ensuring QA/QC.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree with 7 years structural engineering experience.
• FE exam and 7 years experience, EPC preferred.
• Master's degree with 6 years experience, EPC preferred.
• Strong knowledge of IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE7; excellent written and verbal communication.
• Willingness to travel and lead large projects; PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design from conceptual phase to design completion.
• Prepare equipment specifications, RFQs, bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers and other disciplines.
• Develop project schedule, scope, budget, staffing and construction planning; manage change orders.
• Apply QA/QC to drawings and field inspections; coordinate with field personnel.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead project teams; ensure safety policies.
• Prepare technical reports for clients; develop cost proposals and qualifications statements.
• Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders; lead business development efforts.
