Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to assist project teams in creating world-class designs for a wide range of facilities, including power, healthcare, airports, and government projects. You will work under licensed engineers, help modify drawings, and support field inspections through design and construction phases.

The role emphasizes collaboration, attention to detail, and application of fundamental structural engineering concepts in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited structural engineering degree preferred.
• Internship/consulting experience preferred.
• Knowledge of standard structural engineering techniques.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Proficient in MS Office; basic CAD/BIM tools.
• Experience with RISA, AutoCAD, Revit or Tekla.
• Leadership and teamwork abilities; attention to detail.
• Eligibility to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Assist in structural design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assist with modifying and reviewing production drawings for various facilities.
• Assist in designing structural components per project manager requirements.
• Apply knowledge of structural engineering concepts within industry standards.
• Assist with data collection and project-related research.
• Assist in updating CAD drawings and verify corrections across CAD software.
• Assist with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Assist in field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
