Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a seasoned structural engineer to lead analysis, design, certification, and testing of pressurized and unpressurized structures for the New Glenn vehicle. You will drive FEA work, documentation, and coordination with cross-functional teams to ensure safety and performance in spaceflight applications.

You will mentor junior staff, develop automation tools for model creation and reporting, and contribute to qualification campaigns and test planning to support hardware

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering and 8+ years of demonstrated ability with aircraft, spacecraft and launch vehicle structures.
  • Proficiency with Nastran, Optistruct, Ansys, Abaqus for reading and manipulating input files.
  • High proficiency with FEAs such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus CAE or Hypermesh.
  • Experience with development and qualification testing including test setup, configuration and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of aerospace and launch vehicle structural requirements.
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark).
  • Experience with Fatigue and Fracture Analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Detailed hand calculations and FE analysis of primary and secondary aerospace structures.
  • Documentation of stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings and documents.
  • Support test campaigns and create reports for hardware qualifications.
  • Collaborate with other teams for configuration development and trade studies.
  • Mentor designers and junior analysts in stress/stability/fracture analysis and standard processes.
  • Develop and automate enterprise analysis capabilities and tools.
