Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced structural engineer to lead design, certification, and testing of pressurized and unpressurized structures for the New Glenn program. You will drive FE analysis, provide stress verification, and mentor junior staff while collaborating across disciplines to ensure safe, reliable spaceflight hardware.

The role emphasizes leadership, rigorous engineering practices, and a commitment to quality as part of a culture of safety and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in engineering; M.S. preferred; 8+ years in aerospace structures.
  • Proficient with Nastran, Optistruct, Ansys, Abaqus for reading and manipulating input files.
  • Proficient with FEA tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus CAE or Hypermesh.
  • Understanding of FEM modeling techniques (BCs, bolts, contact, verification).
  • Experience with development and/or qualification testing (test requirements, setup, predictions, monitoring).
  • Knowledge of aerospace/launch vehicle structural requirements.
  • Familiarity with classical sizing methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark).
  • Experience with Fatigue and Fracture Analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Detailed hand calculations and FE analysis of primary and secondary aerospace structures.
  • Documentation of stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings/documents.
  • Making predictions, implementing test campaigns, and creating reports for hardware qualifications.
  • Supporting other teams with inputs for configuration development and trade studies.
  • Mentoring and checks for designers and junior structural analysts in stress/stability/fracture analysis.
  • Improving enterprise analysis capabilities with process automation tools for model creation and analysis reports.
  • Collaborating with team members from various disciplines and shop floor.
