Job summary

Clayco is seeking an experienced steel Procurement Manager who excels as a steel project manager with hands-on field experience. You will read drawings, price fabricator scopes, and plan labor vs. material, while coordinating with erectors and trades.

The role emphasizes constructability, sequencing, and cross-training across structural envelopes on large-scale projects. You will lead scope development, pricing, and execution from bid through delivery, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule

Qualifications

• 8+ years as steel PM, estimator, fabricator, erector PM, or GC PM.
• 3+ years hands-on field experience; office-only background not a fit.
• Strong abilities in drawing review and takeoffs.
• Deep understanding of constructability and sequencing.
• Experience writing scopes and labor/material pricing breakdowns.
• Familiar with AISC, SJI, SDI standards, OSHA Subpart R, and steel market.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings and specs at design milestones; perform tonnage, joist, deck takeoffs.
• Write field-ready scopes with clear inclusions/exclusions; drive RFIs to resolution.
• Suggest design changes to reduce cost and schedule; optimize members and connections.
• Evaluate erection sequencing, crane locations, shipping, staging; ensure prerequisites exist.
• Build erection sequence with Ops and erector; align detailing and delivery.
• Identify trade clashes and scope gaps before field execution.
• Break out pricing by labor/material; create CBS packages and negotiate awards.
• Lead coordination meetings; track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, submittals.
• Monitor fabrication, production, delivery, and erection against plan; ensure accuracy of payments.
