Job summary

Blue Origin in Merritt Island, FL is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to design tooling and fixtures for the New Glenn program. You will apply advanced manufacturing, ASME Y14.5 standards, and FEM analysis to deliver safe, reliable spaceflight hardware.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years in a mechanical engineering role; 10+ years in tooling design and commissioning.
• Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis plus hand calculations.
• Proven CAD-based design software experience.
• DFM and DFA expertise for manufacturing.
• Understanding of GD&T and tolerance/stack-up analysis.
• Experience with CNC, mills, lathes, welding, sheet metal, and assembly processes.
• U.S. citizen or eligible for U.S. work status.

Responsibilities

• Design tooling and equipment for production and integration of the New Glenn Launch Vehicle.
• Visualize design options and use advanced manufacturing to provide tooling solutions.
• Integrate mechanical design and analysis across multiple projects in a fast-paced setting.
• Apply ASME Y14.5 design and drafting standards in drawings.
• Address tooling, fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
• Collaborate with flight designers, manufacturing, and integration engineers to optimize cradle-to-grave metrics.
• Manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, and commissioning of tooling.
• Set and maintain schedules and budgets for project completion.
• Be accountable to self and team.
