Job summary

Blue Origin in Merritt Island, FL is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to design and release ground support equipment, tooling, and fixtures for the Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn programs. You will work with design teams to solve manufacturing challenges and ensure safe, reliable hardware from development through flight production.

The role requires leadership, strong CAD skills, and a background in design for manufacturability, GD&T, and FEM analysis.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering or equivalent
• 10+ years design, build, and commissioning tooling for manufacturing, assembly, and test
• Experience with FEM and structural analysis and hand calculations
• Proven CAD-based design and drafting expertise
• Strong DFM/DFMA experience from development to production
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and material properties
• Experience with CNC, welding, sheet metal, lifting/rigging, inspection

Responsibilities

• Design tooling and equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test across multiple units
• Integrate mechanical concepts and perform analyses for fast-paced projects
• Prepare drawings per ASME Y14.5 standards
• Address tooling challenges including fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures
• Collaborate with designers and engineers to meet safety, cost, quality, and delivery goals
• Manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, installation, and commissioning
• Set schedules and budgets to ensure on-time completion
