Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an experienced engineer to design tooling and fixtures for the New Glenn program. You will evaluate multiple design options and apply advanced manufacturing to deliver tooling solutions that support safe, reliable rocket hardware.

The role requires 10+ years in tooling design, CAD-based modeling, and strong DFM/DFA skills, with a collaborative approach to cross-functional teams across production, testing, and integration.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling, fixtures, custom machines, or design support equipment for manufacturing, assembly and test.
  • Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis plus hand calculations and Freebody diagrams.
  • Proven experience with CAD-based design software for modeling and drafting.
  • Strong expertise in DFM and DFA from development design to rate production.
  • Understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, tolerance/stack-up analysis.
  • Experience with CNC machining, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, inspection, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Design tooling and equipment for production and integration of the New Glenn Launch Vehicle.
  • Visualize multiple design options and use advanced manufacturing to provide tooling solutions.
  • Integrate mechanical design and analysis across projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Apply CAD drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) in drawings.
  • Handle fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
  • Work independently and in teams; mentor fellow engineers.
  • Collaborate with flight designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to optimize cradle-to-grave metrics.
  • Manage projects: vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment install, testing, and commissioning.
  • Set, monitor, and adjust schedules and budgets; communicate clearly.
  • Maintain accountability within the team.
