Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an experienced mechanical/ tooling engineer to design, build, and commission tooling and fixtures for the New Glenn launch vehicle. You will apply CAD tools, FEM analyses, and DFMA principles to deliver manufacturable solutions.

You will work across flight design, manufacturing, and integration teams to optimize safety, cost, quality, and schedule while maintaining rigorous design standards and documentation.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years’ experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling, fixtures, custom machines or design support equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
• Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis in addition to hand calculations (freebody diagrams).
• Proven experience with CAD based design software for modelling and drafting.
• Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), taking products from development to production.
• Understanding of materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, welding, sheet metal, and inspection.

Responsibilities

• Design tooling and equipment for production and integration of the New Glenn Launch Vehicle.
• Visualize multiple design options and use advanced manufacturing to provide tooling solutions.
• Integrate mechanical design concepts with analysis across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Interpret and apply ASME Y14.5 drafting standards for drawings.
• Manage projects from vendor selection to commissioning of tooling.
• Collaborate with flight designers, manufacturing engineers and integration engineering to optimize cradle-to-grave metrics.
