Job summary

CesiumAstro, a Space tech company in California, seeks a Senior Staff FPGA Engineer to lead FPGA design and verification for space-based programs. You will work with system engineering, hardware, and software teams to define architecture, interfaces, and timing closure, while mentoring junior designers.

The role requires strong HDL skills (VHDL/Verilog), experience with radiation-tolerant devices, and a track record of space-grade FPGA deployments.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited university.
• 12 years of FPGA design/verification experience at HDL level.
• Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog.
• Familiarity with radiation-tolerant FPGA devices (Versal, UltraScale+, RFSoC, PolarFire, RTG-4).
• Expertise in FPGA implementation (synthesis, place&route, timing closure).
• Proficient in HDL Coder, ModelSim, Xilinx and Microsemi tool flows.
• Strong understanding of space environment effects on FPGA parts and mitigation techniques.
• Hands-on lab experience with scope, spectrum analyzer, RF generators, vector analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Lead FPGA design and verification efforts for space-based programs.
• Collaborate with system engineering, hardware, and software teams to define architecture and interfaces.
• Develop FPGA architecture from system requirements, selecting parts and estimating SWAP-C.
• Present design reviews to customers and executives; contribute to proposals.
• Mentor junior designers to improve efficiency, quality, and consistency.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies to guide future space applications.
