Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Staff FPGA Engineer to drive FPGA design and verification for space-based systems. You will shepherd FPGA architectures, interconnects, and timing across multiple clock domains to meet stringent space-grade requirements.

The role demands hands-on HDL development, thorough verification, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams. Occasional proposals and design reviews with customers and executives are expected.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 12+ years in FPGA design, analysis, and HDL implementation.
• Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog.
• Experience with radiation-tolerant FPGA devices (e.g., Versal, UltraScale+, RFSoC, PolarFire, RTG-4).
• Expertise in FPGA implementation (synthesis, place-and-route, timing) and verification.
• Proficient with HDL coder, Modelsim RTL, and Xilinx/Microsemi toolchains.
• Knowledge of space environment effects on FPGA parts and mitigation techniques.
• Hands-on lab experience with diagnostic instruments.
• Strong written and verbal communication; capable of design reviews and proposals.

Responsibilities

• Lead FPGA design and verification for space programs, ensuring compliance with standards and requirements.
• Collaborate with system engineering, hardware, and software teams to define FPGA architecture and interfaces.
• Develop FPGA architecture from system requirements, select parts, and estimate SWAP-C tradeoffs.
• Serve as subject matter expert in design reviews and customer interactions.
• Mentor junior FPGA designers to improve efficiency and quality.
• Stay current with emerging technologies to guide future space product development.
