Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Staff FPGA Engineer to lead FPGA design, verification, and deployment for space-based systems. You will work across system engineering, hardware, and software teams to define architectures, interfaces, and power considerations, while maintaining high standards in reviews and documentation.

You will mentor junior engineers, work on challenging, radiation-tolerant devices, and contribute to proposals and future product directions within a startup-style environment.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited university.
• 12 years of industry or university research experience in FPGA design, analysis, and HDL implementation.
• Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog design capture.
• Familiarity with radiation-tolerant FPGA devices (Versal, UltraScale+, RFSoC, PolarFire, RTG-4).
• Expertise in FPGA implementation (synthesis, place and route, timing) and verification.
• Strong HDL tooling knowledge (ModelSim, Xilinx/Microchip flows).
• Strong understanding of space environment effects on FPGA parts and mitigation techniques.
• Hands-on experience with lab instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF generators).
• Experience with high-speed interfaces and power optimization for space applications.
• Proven FPGA designs deployed in space programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead FPGA design and verification efforts for space programs ensuring compliance with standards and requirements.
• Collaborate with system engineering, hardware, and software teams to define architecture and interfaces.
• Develop FPGA architecture from system requirements, select parts, and estimate SWAP-C impacts.
• Present design reviews to customers and executive teams; contribute to proposals.
• Mentor junior FPGA designers to improve efficiency, quality, and consistency.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies to guide future space product development.
