Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Software Test Engineer to work remotely with our Veterans Affairs team. You will design and execute comprehensive test plans, write test scripts, and drive quality across web, API, and IT systems.

Qualifications

• Strong programming skills in C#, Java, or Python.
• Proven track record on complex software projects delivering high-quality results.
• Experience in both manual and automated testing.
• Familiar with Agile/Scrum and SDLC.
• Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, scripts, and plans.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks and tools (Selenium, TestNG, JUnit).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Version control with Git and Subversion.
• Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).
• Experience with defect tracking (JIRA, Bugzilla).
• Database/SQL validation for stored data.
• Testing web apps, APIs, and services.
• Knowledge of security testing practices.
• Experience with functional, regression, integration, system, usability, and UAT testing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans, cases, and procedures to meet end-user requirements.
• Develop test plans, schedules, and approaches.
• Write tests and scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
• Demonstrate and walkthrough tests with stakeholders.
• Perform and lead tests to ensure defect-free operation.
• Verify work products using defined methods and criteria.
• Document and communicate test results.
• Assist analysis of test results and issue resolution.
• Create daily test metrics and reports.
• Support other IT systems engineering activities as needed.
• Apply technical principles to problem solving and solution design.
• Mentor junior testers and provide guidance on testing approaches.
