Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Software Engineer SME to lead the Chinook program, directing hands-on technical work across the full SDLC. You will mentor engineers, shape architecture, and collaborate with government stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable software.

You’ll work in a high-impact environment, implementing modern development practices, and guiding teams through design reviews, deployments, and continuous improvement across on‑premise and cloud environments.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required per contract.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 12–15 years of relevant experience, or Master’s with 10–13 years of relevant experience.
• Proficient with web technologies, REST APIs, and modern programming languages.
• Experience in AWS/GovCloud, containerized services, DevSecOps tools, and Agile/Scrum practices.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical SME and advisor for mission applications.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain web applications and backend services.
• Develop scalable, secure software across front-end and back-end tiers.
• Translate mission requirements into robust architecture and implementation plans.
• Provide leadership in design, coding standards, reviews, and best practices.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, microservices, and data services.
• Build responsive front-end interfaces using modern frameworks.
• Design and optimize database schemas and data-processing workflows.
• Troubleshoot complex application, integration, performance, and production issues.
• Support CI/CD, DevSecOps practices, and containerized/cloud environments.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and sprints.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering discipline.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and security.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend feasible solutions.
