Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Software Engineer SME to provide hands‑on technical leadership across the full software lifecycle for the Chinook program, supporting national security objectives.

You will mentor engineers, shape architecture, and promote best practices in a collaborative, multi‑location team including Tucson, AZ, and other locations. Expect modern tech stacks and secure, scalable services with CI/CD and DevSecOps.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 12–15 years of prior relevant experience or Master’s with 10–13 years of prior relevant experience.
• Proficient with modern web technologies and OO languages (Python, Java, JavaScript).
• Experience with AWS GovCloud and multi‑cloud architectures.
• Experience building containerized services and DevSecOps tooling (Docker/Kubernetes, GitLab, Jenkins).
• Strong grounding in Agile/Scrum practices and tools (JIRA, Confluence).

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical SME and advisor for mission applications within Chinook program.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain modern web applications and backend services.
• Develop scalable, secure software across front‑end and back‑end tiers.
• Translate requirements into robust architecture and implementation plans.
• Provide leadership in software design, coding standards, reviews, and best practices.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, microservices, data services, and integrations.
• Build responsive front‑end interfaces using modern frameworks, ensure usability.
• Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and data workflows.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across applications and production environments.
• Support CI/CD, DevSecOps, and containerized/cloud environments.
• Mentor engineers and promote consistent engineering practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and security.
• Evaluate emerging technologies for mission feasibility.
