Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Software Engineer SME for the Chinook program supporting the Intelligence Community. You will lead technically, shape architectures, mentor engineers, and deliver secure, scalable software across front-end and back-end layers.

You will work with government stakeholders to implement modern web applications, microservices, and data services, ensuring CI/CD and security practices are embedded throughout development.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required per contract.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field plus 12–15 years of experience (or Master’s with 10–13 years).
• Proficient with web tech: HTML, CSS, JSON, REST APIs.
• Proficient with OOP: Python, Java, JavaScript; Go for advanced programming.
• Front-end/back-end frameworks: React, Angular, Vue.js, jQuery, Spring Boot, Django, Node.js, Flask, or Svelte.
• Cloud development across AWS, IBM, Google, Azure, Oracle; AWS services including S3, SQS, SNS, EC2, CloudFormation, RDS.
• Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server; NoSQL: OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.
• OS: Windows, Linux; VCS: Git.
• AWS GovCloud/C2S and IaC: Terraform, CloudFormation.
• Containerized services with Docker/Kubernetes.
• DevSecOps tools: GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus, Keycloak, Vault.
• Agile/Scrum methods; tools: JIRA, Confluence.
• Knowledge of GEOINT data standards (OGC WMS/WFS, NSG).
• Preferred: UI/UX in frontend, IC mission systems, event-driven messaging, observability.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical SME and advisor for mission applications.
• Design, develop, integrate, test, deploy, maintain modern web apps and backend services.
• Develop scalable, secure software across front-end and back-end tiers.
• Translate requirements into robust software architecture and plans.
• Provide leadership in design, coding standards, reviews, and best practices.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs, microservices, data services, integrations.
• Build responsive front-ends with modern web frameworks.
• Design/optimize databases and data processing workflows.
• Troubleshoot complex application and production issues.
• Support CI/CD and DevSecOps practices; contribute to cloud environments.
• Mentor engineers and promote consistent engineering practices.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend mission-aligned solutions.
