Job summary

Affirm is building its own bank. Senior Software Engineer on an AI-native team will own core bank systems end-to-end, including cloud, data, workflows, and vendor integrations.

You will work with senior engineers and leadership to launch the bank’s deposit product, drive loan originations, and bring card issuing online, all while maintaining regulator-aligned runbooks and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with end-to-end ownership through launch and operations.
• Comfort in ambiguity—move fast, ask hard questions, own responsibilities.
• Bias toward simplicity in a lean engineering culture with high standards.
• Desire to leverage AI to drive outcomes and productivity.
• Strong systems thinking across cloud infra (AWS), IaC, and data platforms.
• Experience in regulated environments (banking/payments or similar).

Responsibilities

• Own bank systems end-to-end: cloud infrastructure, data platform, durable workflows, CI/CD, configuration, networking, and integrations.
• Set and improve code review and design standards; elevate examiner-readable documentation.
• Ship AI-first solutions; utilize AI tools to improve runbooks, design, and operations.
• Own vendor relationships end-to-end—integration, operations, escalation, and audit.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Audit from day one.
• Maintain monitoring, alerting, runbooks to keep systems reliable and audit-ready.
• Communicate strategy and constraints to non-engineering stakeholders; mentor teammates.
