Job summary

Moderna is seeking an accomplished Scientist to lead the development of targeted lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations within our fast-paced R&D organization. You will advance LNP self-assembly science and engineer delivery systems for small- and large-molecule payloads beyond the liver, leveraging analytics to define structure–function relationships that drive biological performance.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field with 2+ years of experience.
• Deep expertise in LNP design, formulation, and physicochemical characterization with targeted/extr a-hepatic delivery experience preferred.
• Experience with high-throughput workflows, lab automation, and AI/ML-enabled data analysis.
• Proven leadership mentoring scientists and cross-functional collaboration in fast-paced settings.
• Proficiency with analytical techniques for nanoparticle size, morphology, composition, and stability.

Responsibilities

• Drive research on targeted, extra-hepatic LNP delivery from hypothesis through in-vivo evaluation.
• Develop and optimize LNP self-assembly; refine composition, payload, and surface modifications.
• Advance discovery with high-throughput formulation, automation, and AI/ML data analysis.
• Design and execute experiments; analyze and communicate data to diverse teams and leadership.
• Implement advanced physicochemical/biophysical methods to elucidate structure–function relations.
• Maintain electronic notebooks and SOPs consistent with company expectations.
• Provide scientific leadership and mentorship while coordinating with cross-functional and external collaborators.
