Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior SCADA Design Lead to own the in-house SCADA design for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including PV, BESS, and wind. You will work with AutoCAD, Visio, and other tools to produce detailed designs, document standards, and support commissioning readiness.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering preferred.
• 6-8 years of engineering experience in renewable energy projects including PV, BESS or Wind.
• Direct experience drafting SCADA, networking, electrical, and substation drawings.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Advanced knowledge of Layer 2/3 networking concepts and architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of SCADA networks using Fiber Optics, RS-232/RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial protocols including Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA.
• Ability to read and develop diagrams and schematics including power systems, networking, control, electrical, mechanical and civil layouts.
• Advanced knowledge of power plant operating procedures and governing bodies (NERC, ISOs, TOs).
• Ability to work with sub-contractors and field personnel.
• Proficiency with project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead in-house design of SCADA monitoring and control systems for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Develop designs using AutoCAD, Visio and other tools.
• Define and improve SCADA design standards and practices.
• Lead requirements gathering sessions and translate requirements into scalable designs.
• Create detailed design documentation including diagrams and BOMs.
• Perform senior-level review of SCADA drawings and issue redlines.
• Maintain drawing review quality standards across the team.
• Act as primary technical escalation for SCADA configurations and issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous learning.
• Collaborate with SOLV OT to define hardware requirements and mitigate risks.
• Drive standardization and process improvements for design and commissioning.
• Generate and maintain project documentation (Visio, AutoCAD).
• Develop training materials and provide regular status updates and risk assessments.
• Promote NERC compliance and governance in design standards and reporting.
• Operate in ambiguous spaces to guide technical solutions.
• Foster a collaborative, solution-oriented culture.
• Lead SCADA equipment research and technology updates; translate findings into design recommendations.
• Represent SOLV in customer meetings and technical reviews as senior SCADA Lead.
• Interface with 3rd party integrators for SCADA racks and field networks to ensure functionality.
• Lead FAT reviews and customer-witnessed tests as senior SME.
• Coordinate with customers, utility reps and technicians for on-site commissioning and support.
• Support operations and asset management during handoff for long-term reliability.
