Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a senior SCADA design lead to manage in-house design of SCADA monitoring systems for utility-scale PV, BESS, and wind projects. You will develop comprehensive designs using AutoCAD and Visio, define standards, and mentor engineers while ensuring project scope is met and designs comply with standards.

You will collaborate with the OT team, drive standardization, and deliver documentation and training materials.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering is preferred.
• 6-8 years of engineering experience or equivalent in renewable energy and SCADA engineering.
• Direct experience drafting engineering drawing sets for SCADA, Networking, electrical, and/or substation designs.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts and architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of SCADA networks design, installation and commissioning using fiber optics, RS-232/RS-485, Ethernet TCP/IP.
• Advanced knowledge of industrial automation protocols (Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA, DA).
• Advanced knowledge reading and developing diagrams and schematics (power, networking, control, electrical, mechanical, civil).
• Advanced knowledge of power plant operating procedures and regulatory interactions.
• Ability to work with sub-contractors and field personnel.
• Proficiency with project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and own in-house SCADA design for renewable energy projects including PV, BESS, and wind.
• Develop designs using AutoCAD, Visio, and other tools; ensure SCADA system quality.
• Define and improve SCADA design standards and practices for consistency.
• Lead requirements gathering and translate into scalable system designs.
• Prepare design documentation: diagrams, port maps, powering diagrams, BOMs.
• Perform senior-level review of SCADA drawings and issue redlines.
• Maintain drawing review quality standards across the team.
• Serve as escalation point for complex SCADA configurations.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous learning and excellence.
• Collaborate with SOLV OT to define hardware requirements and address risks.
• Drive standardization and process improvements for reliability across projects.
• Create project documentation in Visio and AutoCAD with detailed diagrams.
• Develop training materials per company standards.
• Provide status updates and risk assessments for on-time delivery.
• Promote NERC compliance and governance in design and reporting.
• Operate in ambiguous spaces to guide cross-functional solution development.
• Foster collaborative culture and enablement over barriers.
• Lead special projects researching SCADA equipment and emerging tech.
• Represent SOLV in customer meetings and technical reviews as senior SCADA design lead.
• Interface with 3rd party integrators for SCADA rack and field networks.
• Lead system design review portions of FATs during customer-witnessed tests.
• Coordinate with customers and field technicians for on-site commissioning and support.
• Support operations and asset management during handoff for reliability.
