Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) seeks a Sr. Relay Technician to serve as technical lead for protection and control systems, managing advanced testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and full project execution at substations and industrial facilities.

The role demands deep expertise, strong project leadership, and the ability to interface with utilities and clients while prioritizing safety and reliability. Travel and overtime may be required; NETA certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Pre-employment drug screen is required.
  • Background check must be satisfactory.
  • Overtime and travel may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing protective relays in substations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot distribution and transmission controls circuits.
  • Knowledge of relay test software.
  • Strong communication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead job site safety briefings and enforce safety culture.
  • Analyze protection schemes for power circuits and other components.
  • Install, commission, test, and functional test substation control circuits.
  • Execute end-to-end testing with relay test equipment and software.
  • Read and validate protection schematics and system configurations.
  • Calibrate and verify relays for performance.
  • Develop project execution plans, outage sequences, and energization plans.
  • Manage large-scale commissioning and maintenance projects.
  • Coordinate resources and field activities for successful completion.
  • Develop reports, as-built drawings, and commissioning documentation.
  • Mentor Relay Technician I/II and junior engineers.
  • Interface with customers, utilities, and stakeholders.
