Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an experienced Transmission Planning Engineer (PSCAD Specialist) to join the Electrical Studies, SCADA, and Protection (ESSP) team in Denver, CO. The role involves EMT studies, PSCAD model development, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable energy infrastructure.

The successful candidate will manage multiple projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to business development while residing in the United States. Remote options across the U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• 7–10 years of EMT transmission planning experience.
• PSCAD experience including complex controls interactions, inverter and FACTS modeling.
• Experience developing and tuning PSCAD models.
• Ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Self-leadership and mentorship of juniors; QA/QC focus.
• Must reside and work within the United States.

Responsibilities

• Perform EMT work for network studies, generation and interconnection tasks.
• Develop generation, load, and asset models from designs.
• Tune PSCAD models to meet performance using generic and manufacturer models.
• Develop controls for power plants, grid-following/forming resources, FACTS.
• Execute tasks within scope, schedule, and budget.
• Prepare reports detailing assumptions, findings, and recommendations.
• Quality control reviews of others' work.
• Mentor junior engineers to support transmission planning teams.
• Maintain knowledge of Transmission Planning guides and standards.
• Support business development, including proposals and client meetings.
• Work as both an individual contributor and team member.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency using automation/AI.
