Job summary

WSP USA in Denver, CO is seeking an experienced Transmission Planning Engineer to join our ESSP team. You will lead transmission planning studies, support model development, and collaborate with clients to deliver reliable energy infrastructure.

You will manage multiple projects, work under senior guidance, and mentor junior engineers. Strong communication and QA/QC focus are essential, with opportunities to contribute to business development and innovative planning solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• 7 to 10 years of direct experience in steady state contingency analysis and stability analysis of large power system networks.
• Hands-on experience with multiple power system software packages (PSS/E, PSLF, DSA Tools, TARA, PowerWorld, ASPEN and/or PSCAD).
• Able to automate changes and re-balance planning cases with engineering judgement.
• Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and meet customer needs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with clients, regulators and team members.
• Must reside and work within the United States.

Responsibilities

• Perform or lead transmission planning studies including power flow and contingency analysis.
• Execute tasks within scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
• Prepare reports with study assumptions, findings, and recommendations.
• Quality control reviews of work produced by others.
• Mentor junior engineers and support the development of planning teams.
• Maintain knowledge of Transmission Planning guides and industry practices.
• Support business development activities including proposals and client meetings.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency using automation and AI tools.
