Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Senior Project Manager to oversee highly complex programs across multiple locations (WV/VA/TN). The role blends leadership with tight cost, schedule, and safety controls in a matrix environment.

The position emphasizes governance, stakeholder communication, and risk management; PMP certification is required unless waived. Travel is typical, and the salary range ($161K–$208K) reflects advanced level responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or related field; with ten years of qualified experience; OR an Associate’s degree with twelve years; OR a High School Diploma with fourteen years.
• Three years of experience as PROJECT MANAGER PRINCIPAL (Grade 9) is preferred, or demonstrated competency in a shorter timeline.
• PMP certification required unless waived by SVP or OPCO President.
• Valid state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and manage assigned project activities using PMI methods including Waterfall and Agile.
• Ensure safety and Zero Harm through AEP System Safety Process and lead stakeholder communications.
• Develop and manage project plan, schedule, budget, tools and staff; optimize cost and reallocate funding as needed.
• Lead planning meetings and complex stakeholder presentations with clear written and oral reports.
• Build relationships with internal/external customers, vendors, and suppliers; foster teamwork and customer satisfaction.
