Job summary

Cenovus Energy seeks a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the US refineries' process safety competency and policy adoption. The role acts as the US region's SME, coordinating with Canadian counterparts to extend expertise and governance across locations.

Ideal candidates bring 16+ years in process safety, strong HAZOP/LOPA experience, and a track record of developing safety training, auditing, and regulatory interpretation to ensure robust risk management across Cenovus

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or close related discipline.
• Minimum 16+ years in process safety or related field; 10+ years in oil & gas/petrochemicals is a plus.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; capable of translating analyses into SIL requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across US Refineries, owning methodology development and regulatory interpretation.
• Build and develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design and deliver a comprehensive risk-training suite for site personnel; QA/QC site deliverables and mentor new staff.
• Champion key risk standards across the organization (PHA standard, RMP compliance).
• Coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis, etc.).
• Drive and support assurance audits within the PSM space.
