Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead the US Process Safety competency for our refineries, with responsibility for policy development and risk management across the US region.

You will build a proficient team, deliver risk training, and maintain safety standards including PHA/RMP compliance, HAZOP/LOPA methods, and third-party studies for facility siting and hazard analyses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline.
• 16+ years working directly in a Process Safety role or closely related discipline.
• 10+ years within Oil and Gas/Petrochemicals is an asset; Functional Safety Engineer Certification is an asset.
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; translating into SIL requirements.
• Experience in process safety information auditing or RAGAGEP verification.
• Experience with Fire Hazard Analysis techniques, QRA, and facility siting studies.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety as a competency across the US Refineries, owning methodology development, regulatory and code interpretation, and industry policy representation.
• Build and develop capable Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design, deliver, and maintain a comprehensive risk-training suite for site personnel, including QA/QC of site deliverables and mentoring new team members.
• Champion and safeguard key risk standards across the organization (PHA standard, RMP compliance).
• Directly conduct/coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive and support assurance audits within the PSM space.
