Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead Process Safety across US refineries and support Canadian counterparts. You will own methodology, train engineers, and oversee PHA and RMP compliance, with extensive experience in HAZOPs and LOPA analyses.

The role requires a chemical/mechanical engineering degree and 16+ years in process safety, with asset in oil & gas. Ohio operations are included; travel/relocation may be involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline required.
• 16+ years working directly in a Process Safety role or closely related discipline required; 10+ years in Oil & Gas/Petrochemicals asset
• Experience leading multiple complex unit HAZOPs and MOCs; translating into SIL requirements
• Experience in process safety information auditing or RAGAGEP verification
• Experience in consequence modelling; PHAST experience asset
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes & US regulations; RMP compliance familiarity
• Experience with Fire Hazard Analysis techniques, QRA and facility siting studies, PSM concepts
• Note: transferrable skills considered with equiv combinations of experience and education

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across US Refineries; ownership of methodology development
• Develop Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID)
• Design and maintain a risk-training suite for site personnel; QA/QC of deliverables
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP compliance)
• Coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis)
• Drive assurance audits within the PSM space
