Job summary

Amazon.com LLC - A03 is seeking an experienced Power & Hardware Design Engineer to lead power system standards and hardware development for OneMHS worldwide. You will drive optimization of power distribution, safety, and reliability across material handling operations.

The role requires deep technical expertise in electrical design, arc flash studies, and integration with WWDE, Operations Engineering, and strategic suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with large-scale mechanical and power systems.
  • Experience solving problems with technology in Energy & Utilities.
  • 1+ years of AutoCAD Electrical (2010+) or Master’s in EE/ME.
  • Experience in hardware design and validation of components/subsystems.
  • Experience in material handling systems installation/maintenance.
  • 4+ years of power systems design and hardware development.
  • Proven expertise in 3-phase power design and distribution.
  • Arc flash calculations per IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E.
  • Knowledge of NEC compliance (NFPA 70).
  • AutoCAD and Autodesk tools proficiency.
  • Familiarity with power analysis software (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower).

Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, and optimize 3-phase power systems and distribution for material handling.
  • Design and specify MDBs, PDPs, and electrical substations with proper protection and code compliance.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and panel schedules for facility power needs.
  • Perform power quality, fault current, and coordination studies for reliability and safety.
  • Select transformers, switchgear, breakers, bus ducts, and distribution equipment.
  • Create modular, scalable power distribution prioritizing reliability and maintainability.
  • Establish panel placement, grounding, and safety circuit design best practices.
  • Perform load calculations, diversity factors, and future capacity planning.
  • Coordinate with mechanical/structural teams for integrated designs.
  • Prepare A/E drawing sets with electrical plans and layouts.
  • Maintain arc-flash labeling programs and compliance across sites.
  • Audit electrical designs for safety risks and code compliance.
  • Drive standardization of electrical specifications across projects.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and drive knowledge sharing.
  • Lead design reviews for complex power and hardware systems.
  • Support development of electrical implementation playbooks and documentation.
  • Contribute to IP in power systems and hardware engineering.
