Job summary

IPS, a Berkshire Hathaway company, seeks a Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at Blue Bell, PA, or our Cherry Hill, NJ, Somerset, NJ, or Germantown, MD offices.

You will lead plumbing and fire protection design on technically complex facilities in the life sciences sector, mentor early-career staff, and coordinate with clients and other trades. Travel 5-20% and strict safety protocols apply.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years engineering/design experience in building design (plumbing, drainage, utility systems).
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering.
• Expertise in CAD design programs (AutoCAD/Revit).
• Thorough knowledge of Plumbing, Mechanical, and Fire Protection systems and codes.
• Experience with calculations using Pipe Flow, HASS, Viking, etc.
• 2-4 years overseeing engineers and designers on projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects across all phases, including feasibility, design, and documentation.
• Define scope, budget, and staffing with the Project Manager.
• Prepare design scopes and engineering studies.
• Review system operations and ensure code compliance.
• Mentor Designers and Engineers early in their careers.
• Coordinate with clients and other trades; produce clear markups.
• Oversee plumbing and fire protection design drawings and layouts.
• Prepare budgets and promote design standards.
