Job summary

IPS is seeking a Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at our Germantown, MD location. You will lead plumbing and fire protection design efforts across multiple projects, coordinating with clients and other engineers, and mentoring junior staff.

The role requires 8–10 years in engineering/design, a BS in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering, and proficiency with AutoCAD/Revit. Travel 5–20% is expected, with opportunities for growth within a global firm.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years engineering/design experience in building design (plumbing, drainage, utility systems).
• BS degree in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering.
• Expertise with CAD tools (AutoCAD/Revit).
• Thorough knowledge of Plumbing, Mechanical, and Fire Protection system design and codes.
• Experience with plumbing/fire protection calculation software (HASS, Viking, Pipe Flow, IPS spreadsheets).
• 2-4 years overseeing engineers and designers on project teams.

Responsibilities

• Acts as Project Lead across all phases: feasibility, assessments, Basis of Design, and detailed design.
• Defines project scope with PM, determines budget and staffing.
• Prepares scope of work, reports, plans, and supports construction.
• Reviews operations of existing systems and coordinates with clients and other design professionals.
• Mentors designers and engineers, overseeing plumbing and fire protection layouts and calculations.
