Job summary

Humana Inc in Denver seeks a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and scalable. You’ll work across Java/Drools, React/Node/Postgres, Node.js, Kafka, Databricks, and more to diagnose issues, improve performance, and implement focused enhancements.

This hands-on role emphasizes observability, reliability, and collaboration with Delivery Pods and Decision Intelligence to own components long term while balancing business needs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Able to read, debug, and extend code in Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Solid understanding of APIs, event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability: structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Maintenance‑and‑reliability mindset: healthy, well-documented code and operational health.
• Clear communicator who can explain systems and incidents to engineers and non‑engineers alike.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance — Maintain and support services across the full platform.
• Reliability Engineering — Monitor platform health and resolve bottlenecks, failures, and scaling constraints.
• Feature Implementation — Design and ship focused features and improvements.
• Observability — Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for production visibility.
• Performance and scale — Profile and tune components under load and scale as volume grows.
• Quality — Write tests, participate in code reviews, uphold engineering standards.
