Job summary

Humana Inc in the United States is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and maintainable. You will work across Java/Drools, React/Node/Postgres, Node.js/Temporal, Kafka, and Databricks to diagnose issues and implement focused improvements.

You will monitor health, resolve bottlenecks, design features, extend observability, and help the platform scale with growing data and member volume, while maintaining high engineering standards and on-call readiness.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Ability to read, debug, and extend code in multiple languages (Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, SQL).
• Solid understanding of distributed systems: APIs, event-driven patterns, asynchronous processing, and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Maintenance mindset: focus on reliability and well-documented code.
• Clear communicator who can explain complex systems to engineers and non-engineers alike.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance — maintain and support services across the full platform and keep components current.
• Reliability Engineering — monitor health, investigate production issues, resolve bottlenecks and scaling constraints.
• Feature Implementation — design and ship focused features and improvements across components.
• Observability — extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for production visibility.
• Performance and scale — profile and tune components under load and scale with data growth.
• Quality — write tests, participate in code reviews, uphold engineering standards.
• Incident response — participate in on-call, lead root-cause analysis, turn incidents into durable fixes.
• Collaboration — work with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence for long-term ownership.
