Job summary

CSL is seeking a Phlebotomy/Pheresis Technician to perform plasma collection and donor care in a fast-paced setting. You will set up donors, monitor the pheresis procedure, perform venipuncture and make adjustments to ensure efficient collection and donor safety.

You will educate donors on plasma products, screen processes, appointment systems and center policies while promptly addressing donor questions and concerns. The role requires adherence to SOPs, FDA guidelines and HSE/OSHA policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum eighteen (18) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Specialized medical or phlebotomy training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring and donor disconnect.
• Perform venipuncture on donors to begin pheresis process, in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
• Evaluate vein performance and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
• Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma and explain screening and appointment processes.
• Monitor donor reactions and assist or notify staff as needed.
• Record incidents during pheresis using a PDA, including machine alerts, volume variances and adverse events.
• Perform calibrations and verify maintenance per SOPs; respond to equipment alarms and donor issues.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and create incident documentation; remove or replace equipment as needed.
• Monitor donor flow on the floor to maintain turnover and alert supervisors to flow issues.
• Provide guidance and training to donor floor staff as required.
• Collect arm or whole blood samples for testing and ensure accurate donor data entry in the system.
• Understand policies for hyper immune programs and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• May be cross-trained in other areas and may require bilingual skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
