Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with a focus on tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of state and federal payroll tax notice types; ability to independently draft penalty abatement requests and agency response letters.
• Experience preparing and filing amended Federal (Form 941-X) and State payroll tax returns across multiple states including complex jurisdictions.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law: FICA, FUTA, FITW, and tax payment/deposit schedules.
• Experience as a lead/Senior SME; coaching or training junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices in the team’s queue across multiple quarters and states.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (941-X, W-2c) across 10+ states end-to-end.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple pay periods or jurisdictions; trace discrepancies to payroll runs and drive correction workflows.
• Maintain high productivity in resolving corrections, amendments, and notices with high accuracy.
• Coach and mentor Senior Payroll Tax Processors and lead knowledge transfer to build team capability.
