Intuit, Inc. is seeking a Staff Payroll Tax Processor to serve as a senior payroll tax SME, resolving complex Federal and State notices, corrections, and amended returns across multiple states.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, coaching, and continuous process improvement while handling the most challenging cases. This SelectTime-based, remote role offers flexible hours (minimum 20 hours/week, up to 40 hours) and overtime eligibility.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience focusing on tax defect resolution for notices, amended returns, and payroll corrections across multiple states.
• Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types and ability to draft penalty abatement requests and agency response letters with documentation.
• Hands-on experience preparing and approving amended Federal (Form 941-X, W-2c) and State payroll tax returns across multiple states including complex local requirements.
• Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law: FICA, FUTA, FITW and related penalties and interest.

Responsibilities

• Resolve the most complex State and Federal payroll tax notices, owning the full case lifecycle from intake to closure.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State payroll tax returns (Form 941-X and state equivalents) across 10+ states.
• Diagnose and resolve payroll tax errors spanning multiple periods or jurisdictions; drive correction workflows to resolution.
• Maintain high productivity by resolving Corrections, Amendments, and Notice resolutions with high accuracy.
• Monitor WIP, identify aging cases, and pro-actively remove blockers with root-cause analysis.
• Coach Senior Payroll Tax Processors and teach resolution processes to build team capability.
• Contribute to team huddles, QA sessions, and SOP/KB content creation.
• Identify compliance trends and communicate with stakeholders to drive resolutions.
