Job summary

Intuit is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert (Level X5) for Payroll Tax Operations. In this technical leadership role, you will own the most complex escalations and serve as the primary resource for the team, shaping SOPs and knowledge base content while coaching others to build capability.

You will oversee WIP, backlogs, and aging reports, resolve IRS/state notices, and participate in cross-functional meetings to provide risk-informed options.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Lead, senior specialist, or SME experience with coaching or mentoring junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of US tax payment and filing regulations across jurisdictions.
• Advanced writing skills for SOPs and technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary real-time technical expert for TP1, TP2, TP3 staff and teach resolution paths.
• Own authoring, review, and approval of SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions using SBIC model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or assist in team huddles, QA sessions, and stand-ups as backup facilitator.
• Oversee WIP, backlog, and aging reports; recommend staffing adjustments.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices including IRS/state issues across multiple quarters.
• Approve complex amended returns (Form 941-X, W-2c) with audit trails.
• Identify compliance risks and communicate findings with data-driven recommendations.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings with a compliance-focused stance.
