Job summary

Intuit's Payroll Tax Operations team seeks a Lead Tax Processor and SME (Level X5) to drive critical initiatives and serve as the primary resource for the team. You will own SOPs, approve KB articles, and coach colleagues to build workforce capacity.

You will resolve the most complex state and federal payroll tax issues, oversee WIP and aging reports, and provide risk-informed recommendations in cross-functional settings. This role is remote with overtime eligibility.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience focusing on complex tax defect resolution.
• Lead, senior specialist, or SME with coaching/j mentoring junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of US tax regulations across all jurisdictions with multi-state filings.
• Advanced writing skills for SOPs and technical documents for a tax audience.
• Ownership of SLAs, red flags, and workflow bottlenecks.
• Experience handling highly sensitive escalations with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time technical expert for TP1-TP3 staff and teach resolutions.
• Author, review, and approve SOPs and KB articles across operations.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions using the SBIC model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or support Daily Stand-Ups, group QA, and performance board updates.
• Oversee WIP, backlog, and aging reports; advise staffing needs to management.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices across states, including IRS/state issues.
• Approve complex amended Federal and State returns with audit trails.
• Identify trends and compliance risks; communicate with stakeholders.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings with risk-informed options.
