Job summary

Intuit, Inc. is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert to drive complex payroll tax issue resolution and SOP governance. You will own escalations, author SOPs, and provide structured coaching to build team expertise while ensuring compliance across multi-state matters.

You will operate in a flexible, virtual environment with minimum 20 hours per week and potential to 40 hours based on business needs, receiving overtime eligibility as this is an hourly, non-exempt role.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with a demonstrated focus on complex tax defect resolution, notice response, and multi-state amendment filings.
• Prior experience functioning formally as a lead, senior specialist, or SME, with coaching/mentoring junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of tax payment and filing regulations across all US jurisdictions, including local municipal tax systems and state programs.
• Advanced writing skills to create, review, and approve SOPs and technical documents for a tax processor audience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary, real-time go-to technical expert for TP1, TP2, and TP3 staff, answering complex questions and teaching resolution paths to build team capability.
• Own the authoring, technical review, and formal approval of SOPs and KB articles across core operations.
• Conduct structured coaching sessions at least quarterly with assigned team members using SBIC model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or contribute to team huddles, QA sessions, and performance board updates; backup facilitator for Daily Stand-Ups.
• Maintain oversight of WIP, backlog, and aging reports to recommend staffing adjustments.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices in queue, including IRS discrepancies and state audits.
• Approve highly complex amended returns across states with audit trails.
• Identify systemic trends and compliance risks; communicate findings with data-driven responses.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings with commitment to compliance and risk-aware alternatives.
