Job summary

SelectTime is hiring a Lead Tax Processor and SME to support Intuit's Payroll Tax Operations. This technical leadership role will own complex tax defect resolution, SOP governance, and coaching, acting as the primary escalation resource and driving workforce capacity.

You will approve amended returns, manage multi-state notices, and mentor staff while leveraging AI tools to improve workflows. The position is based in Illinois with flexible hours and overtime eligibility.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Experience as a lead, senior specialist, or SME with coaching or training juniors.
• Expert knowledge of tax regulations across US jurisdictions and state programs.
• Advanced writing skills for SOPs and technical documents.
• Ownership of SLAs, red flags, and proactive workflow resolutions.
• Experience handling highly sensitive escalations with minimal guidance.
• Experience in contact center or back-office operations for high-volume needs.
• Willingness to leverage AI tools to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary real-time technical expert for staff and resolve escalations.
• Author, review, and approve SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct structured coaching sessions quarterly using SBIC feedback model.
• Lead team huddles and QA sessions; back up Daily Stand-Ups when needed.
• Oversee WIP, backlog, and aging reports; advise staffing adjustments.
• Resolve severe payroll tax notices and multi-quarter IRS/state issues.
• Approve complex amended Federal and State returns with audit trails.
• Identify risks and trends; communicate findings with data-driven responses.
• Represent the team in cross-functional meetings and ensure compliance.
