Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking an experienced hospital outpatient coder to review clinical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses, CPT/HCPCS procedures, and modifiers for complex outpatient accounts.

You will work with clinicians to ensure complete and accurate documentation and charges, while adhering to department quality and productivity standards. Remote/hybrid option available.

Qualifications

• Two years of hospital outpatient coding experience.
• Current certification with AHIMA or AAPC (RHIA/RHIT/CPC/CCS/CCS-P).
• Coding program covering ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates health record documentation to ensure ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes reflect the encounter.
• Initiates coding queries and provides clinician feedback for documentation improvement.
• Reviews LCD/NCD policies to support medical necessity of services.
• Collaborates with the denials team for education and denial prevention.
• Ensures outpatient accounts are coded accurately and timely.
• Keeps coding quality at 95% accuracy and meets productivity standards.
• Assists with training of outpatient coders.
• Performs related duties as required.
