Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a skilled Outpatient Medical Coder Edits to determine CPT and ICD-10 Codes for same-day surgeries and other encounters. This remote, full-time role requires strong CPT/ICD-10-CM expertise and familiarity with LCD/NCD classifications, MUE, and NCCI rules.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• AHIMA and/or AAPC certification (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A) to be maintained annually.
• 2+ years of Outpatient Facility coding experience for all chart types (Same Day Surgery, Observation, ED, Ancillary services, Clinics).
• 1+ years of experience with LCD, NCD, Medical Necessity, Modifier Edits, OCE, MUE and NCCI structures.
• Expert CPT and ICD-10-CM coding proficiency.
• Proficient PC skills in Windows, MS Excel, and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT and ICD-10 Code assignments for outpatient surgery, observation, CVIR, ER, and ancillary services per official guidelines.
• Analyze/correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity accounts.
• Understand APC codes and Medicare rules.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA standards.
• Maintain productivity and coding quality as set by management.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians as needed.
• Stay up-to-date with coding materials provided by QM and Directors.
