Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks an experienced Outpatient Medical Coder Edits to accurately assign CPT and ICD-10 codes for same day surgeries, observations, and complex cases. This remote role supports US facilities and reports to the Coding Operations Manager or Quality Management.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of outpatient facility coding experience for all chart types, Same Day Surgery, Observation, Emergency Department, Ancillary services, and Clinics.
• AHIMA/AAPC credential maintained annually (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A).
• Expert CPT and ICD-10-CM coding proficiency.
• Proficiency with Windows and MS Excel and EMR systems.
• Experience with LCD, NCD, Medical Necessity, Modifier Edits, OCE, MUE and NCCI classification and reimbursement structures.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate CPT and ICD-10 Code assignments for outpatient surgery, observation, CVIR, ER and ancillary services, following official coding guidelines.
• Apply coding knowledge to analyze/correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity accounts.
• Understand Medicare APC codes and related processes.
• Abstract data elements during chart reviews when coding, as needed.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge and participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
