Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks an Outpatient Medical Coder Edits to work remotely across the United States. The role focuses on accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding for same‑day surgeries, trauma ER, observation, and complex cases, under supervision of Coding Operations/Quality Management.

Qualifications include two or more years of outpatient coding, AHIMA/AAPC certification, and strong proficiency in CPT/ICD-10-CM with Excel/EMR systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required and professional coder certification (AHIMA and/or AAPC) maintained annually.
• 2+ years of Outpatient Facility coding experience for all chart types (Same Day Surgery, Observation, ED, Orthopedic/Spinal cases).
• 1+ years with LCD/NCD, Medical Necessity, Modifier Edits, OCE, MUE and NCCI classification and reimbursement structures.
• Expert CPT and ICD-10-CM coding proficiency.
• Windows PC usage including MS Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify CPT/ICD-10 code assignments for outpatient surgery, observation, CVIR, ED, and ancillary services.
• Analyze/correct CCI Edits and Medical Necessity accounts.
• Understand APC codes used in billing.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding.
• Provide feedback to physicians and query as needed.
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge per QM Manager and Directors.
