Job summary

RTX’s Air Launched Effectors ALE AUR Mechanical Design team seeks an experienced Electro‑Mechanical Engineer to develop high‑performance opto‑mechanical hardware for defense products. You will balance design rigor with program budgets and schedules, driving key components from concept to production.

Applicants should have a STEM degree, 10+ years in hardware design, and DoD program experience; must hold a DoD Secret clearance and be willing to travel up to 25% to support suppliers and sites.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a STEM degree with 10+ years of experience or an Advanced Degree with 7+ years experience.
• Experience in hardware engineering design, development, and production support.
• Experience across multiple DoD programs or similarly complex development efforts.
• Expertise in static, dynamic, and thermal mechanical analyses.
• Proven ability to develop high‑performance hardware meeting stringent specs and compliance standards.
• Hands‑on mechanical and electrical aptitude with a track record of solving complex electro‑mechanical issues.
• Proficiency in interpreting mechanical drawings and performing tolerance stack‑ups.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Active DoD Secret clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for opto‑mechanical and electro‑mechanical design.
• Oversee drafting, structural/thermal analysis, EM simulations, IR drop calculations, and PI/SI analysis.
• Serve as liaison between Program Office, Chief Engineer’s Office, and external suppliers.
• Track schedule milestones and optimize resources across engineering teams.
• Manage obsolescence by qualifying replacement parts for rate production.
• Support supply chain, procurement, QA, and manufacturing.
• Lead proof‑of‑concept designs and IRAD initiatives.
• Develop and execute environmental qualification test plans (shock, vibration, thermal cycling, EMI/EMC).
• Lead root‑cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
