Job summary

RTX is seeking an experienced Electro‑Mechanical Engineer for the ALE AUR Mechanical Design team in the Tucson area. You will provide technical leadership in developing opto‑mechanical and electro‑mechanical hardware for state‑of‑the‑art defense products, balancing SOW, budgets, and schedules.

You will drive detailed component and system‑level designs, oversee analyses and testing, and coordinate with engineering and supplier teams. A DoD Secret clearance is required, with up to 25% travel.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with minimum 10 years of experience, or an advanced degree with minimum 7 years.
• Experience in hardware engineering design, development, and production support.
• Experience across multiple DoD programs or similarly complex development efforts.
• Proficiency in static, dynamic, and thermal mechanical analyses.
• Proven success developing high‑performance hardware meeting stringent specs and compliance standards.
• Strong hands‑on mechanical and electrical aptitude with problem-solving track record.
• Proficiency in interpreting mechanical drawings and tolerance stack‑up analyses.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Active DoD Secret clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Lead an engineering team focused on opto‑mechanical and electro‑mechanical design.
• Oversee drafting, structural/thermal analysis, EM simulations, PI/SI analysis.
• Serve as primary liaison between Program Office, Chief Engineer’s Office, and suppliers.
• Coordinate schedule milestones, resource allocation, and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Manage obsolescence and identify replacement parts for rate production.
• Support procurement, QA, and supply chain to maintain production pipelines.
• Lead supplier onboarding and scaling activities for production programs.
• Ensure adherence to requirements and engineering principles.
• Prepare and present data packages to ERB, MRB, and Change Boards.
• Lead POC designs for new technologies and IRAD initiatives.
• Develop and execute environmental qualification test plans (shock, vibration, thermal, EMI/EMC).
• Lead root‑cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
