Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Knoxville, TN is seeking an experienced engineer to join our Nuclear Power Group in a hybrid role. You will design and review mechanical systems for nuclear plants, lead engineering project teams, and interact with clients on scope, cost, and schedule.

The position emphasizes automation and AI-enabled workflows, data-driven decision making, and applying tools like Python, MATLAB, and Excel to improve accuracy and reduce rework. U.S. work authorization required.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program with academic coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfers
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in the nuclear power industry
• Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants
• PE license is beneficial, but not required

Responsibilities

• Modify packages for operating nuclear power plants
• Prepare or review functional mechanical drawings for nuclear power plant systems
• Perform engineering analyses and evaluations to support modifications and operation
• Prepare technical specifications and procurement documents for plant equipment
• Conduct vendor bid evaluations for plant equipment
• Study and evaluate options for modifications to operating nuclear power plants
• Develop engineering cost estimates for small to mid-sized client work scopes
• Visit client offices or plant sites to interface with clients and present engineering tasks/status
• Lead engineering project teams
