Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Knoxville offers a hybrid work arrangement, three days in the office and two remote. The role centers on nuclear power plant mechanical systems, calculations, and reporting, with mentorship of junior staff and client-facing responsibilities.

You will leverage thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics expertise to size equipment, evaluate processes, and support design reviews, with potential travel for site verifications and client meetings.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BSME from an ABET-accredited program with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 5+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Preparation of calculations and/or reports with excellent technical writing skills.
• Knowledge of practical mechanical engineering and project design applications.
• Strong interest in numerical computations and problem solving.
• Familiarity with codes, standards, and regulations for nuclear power plant design.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to power plant engineering tasks.
• Prepare or review calculations, evaluations, and technical reports for client recommendations.
• Conduct equipment sizing, optimization, and selection per client needs.
• Support project teams and interface with clients to present technical discussions and status.
• Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
• Mentor junior staff on power plant engineering tasks.
• Possibly travel to client/vendor sites for reviews and site verifications.
