Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary project team in a hybrid work setting combining home and office work.

The position involves designing, analyzing and documenting mechanical systems, preparing calculations, drawings and reports, and applying thermodynamics and heat transfer principles. You will mentor junior engineers, attend field walk downs and contribute to meetings for project success.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
• BSME/MSME from ABET-accredited program with interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design
• 5+ years of progressive responsible experience in mechanical engineering ideally in a nuclear environment
• Working knowledge of Codes, Standards, and Regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design (eg., ASME B31 piping Codes, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME AG-1)
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis or advanced engineering software (e.g., ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT flow simulation, Hourly Analysis Program, Trace 700)
• Experience with CAD software (e.g., Solidworks, Inventor, Microstation, AutoCAD)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Professional Engineer License (PE) is valued
• DOE experience preferred; commercial or Navy
• Field engineering and construction experience
• Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Mathcad, advanced Excel)
• Experience with glovebox and hot cell design

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical design engineering efforts on multi-disciplined project design team
• Responsible for production of engineering calculations/analyses, design drawings and engineering reports
• Apply mechanical engineering expertise to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components
• Produce Procurement Specifications and Construction Specifications (Mechanical sections)
• Attend project meetings and perform field walk downs
• Mentor junior engineers
